On the average almost 80 to
90% of all women face the problem of having to cope with the problems
of pregnancy stretch marks on their bellies either during the pregnancy
period or after delivery. We will discuss here the reasons of such
stretch marks and what remedies can be sought to prevent such marks.
Pregnancy marks are almost impossible to avoid for any woman.
These marks are a result of many factors specially stretching of the
skin. The weight gain during pregnancy and the growing baby in the
womb, results in stretching of the skin of the belly beyond the normal
stretching capacity of the skin. The skin grows; rather it is stretched
beyond its normal elasticity. These marks become visible in the latter
stages of pregnancy and tend to remain back after delivery.
After delivery, women make efforts to loose the weight gained during
the pregnancy by resorting to all means. No doubt they loose the
weight, but the skin which had remained stretched for quite sometimes
fail to return to its original shape in that short period of time and
the result is ugly stretch marks.
If you follow the below mentioned few tips, then pregnancy stretch marks can be prevented after and during pregnancy.
Drink a
lot of Water: Your skin needs to be kept hydrated and
drinking a lot of water will keep your body and skin well hydrated and
will prevent the stretch marks from appearing in the first place.
Good Eating Habits: You must follow a proper diet as per
chart given by your doctor. This will ensure that you don not put on
unnecessary weight abruptly. A steady weight gain as the child grows
will minimize the chances of pregnancy stretch marks. You must ask your
doctor to prepare a diet chart for you other wise you must ensure you
take foods that are rich in Vitamin C and E and zinc. The weight gain
during pregnancy is the most important factor at to whether you will
retain the stretch marks after your pregnancy or not.
Increasing Blood Circulation in affected area: By usage of a
body brush or a wash cloth to gently massage the areas of arms, legs,
breasts and abdomen which are prone to stretch marks the blood
circulation in these areas should be increased. This will help in
preventing the occurrence of the Pregnancy stretch marks in these
areas. Moreover, you can use specially formulated creams and lotions
for the massage which prevent such marks from occurring. You must
consult your physician before using any of the OTC creams and lotions.
Regular Exercise: Ask your doctor to prescribe light
exercise fit for a pregnant woman. A regular exercise regime will keep
you skin elastic enough to go back into the original shape after
delivery. Regular exercise will help you to remain fit and in
shape during and after pregnancy. Care must be taken that after
delivery the weight loss is gradual as it was gained. This will ensure
that not ugly stretch marks are left behind and the skin is not left
sagging by an abrupt weight loss.
Before you take any of the above remedies it is advisable to seek your
doctor’s advice as to the suitability of the preventive
methods on your body. However, you must remember that avoiding
pregnancy just to prevent pregnancy stretch marks is inhuman. Pregnancy
Stretch marks are an insignificant price for having a beautiful baby and
feeling the richness of motherhood for a woman.
