|
It is a natural process by
which nature provides a comfortable home for your child in the womb.
The body gains weight especially around the abdomen to provide
cushioning effect to the child in the womb. There is some gain in the
muscles supporting the uterus as well. The weight gain is gradual as
required by the body to support the growing child.
Now what should be the ‘Ideal’ weight?
Most women often ask this question. As there is no uniformity
of body structures there cannot be an ‘Ideal’
weight. As there is no such thing as ‘Ideal’ weight
for a woman, there is no ‘Ideal’ weight during
pregnancy. Weight gain during pregnancy is dependent the body
structure as well as a lot many other factors like eating habits,
exercise regime etc.
However, doctors around the world prescribe certain guidelines which
can be followed to keep the weight again within normal limits which are
considered healthy for you.
For ladies of normal weight before pregnancy the expected gain is
between 25-35 pounds during the course of pregnancy.
For underweight ladies the weight gain would be anything between 30-40
pounds as their body requires to gain more weight.
For over weight ladies the normal weight gain allowed is between 15-25
pounds.
However keep in mind that if you are having multiple babies –
twins or more the amount of weight gain will be definitely more, even
45 pounds or more depending upon the number of babies.
It is of utmost importance that during pregnancy you must avoid any
kind of dieting. You must eat sensibly so that you do not put on
un-necessary weight which becomes a burden for you after delivery. The
idea is to eat healthy and have a balanced diet to keep the weight gain
within healthy limits making it easier for you to loose weight after
delivery.
