| Back Pain during
Pregnancy |
|
All
women experience some degree of back pain during the early phases of
pregnancy. This is normal and a short phenomenon which gradually
subsides after about 20 weeks. Back Pain occurs due to stretching
of the muscles burning pain on the right or left side of the quadrant.
The pain is normally due to softening of the supporting ligaments and
discs due to increased secretion of progesterone hormone in the early
phases of pregnancy. Sometimes urinary infection in the early phases of
pregnancy can also result in back pain. The change of weight and
consequent change of center of gravity also is contributing factor
towards back pain.
The back pain which is directly related to pregnancy is not chronic and
usually be cured by some very good and easy home remedies. The first
and most effective way of fighting back pain is exercising. This is a
time tested remedy as usually the normal medicine like OTC painkillers
etc. cannot be taken during the early phases of pregnancy. Walking is
the best possible exercise and is the least taxing of all. Other
exercises like pelvic rocking, knee bending and exhalation while
bending your head, mini crunched lying on the floor and bridging down
by lying on the floor and lifting your buttocks slightly after bending
your knees, can be done to relieve the back pain resulting from
pregnancy.
A fit body is a result of a strict exercise regime. Back pain can be
alleviated by having the right posture and good body mechanics and
helps in keeping the body pain free. First and foremost, you must keep
you standing posture straight and tall. Avoid high heels and
stilettos. The importance of correct posture is as essential in
the early stages of pregnancy as is before and after that. As the baby
grows and weight is gained women tend to pull back their shoulders to
offset the additional weight. This results in a back strain. Avoid
standing for long period and shift sitting positions very often and it
reduces stress on your back.
Another requirement of early pregnancy is adequate rest and sleep.
Unless you take steps to provide these to your body, you may suffer
from back pain. Avoid all kinds of strenuous activities, including
lifting of heavy articles during pregnancy as these can result in back
pain.
Back pain must be eliminated and if ignored can become chronic
effecting the day to day life. Chronic back pain requires expert
attention and special treatments. However, it is best to wait till the
child birth ad no high dose of medicine or any physiotherapy can be
administered during pregnancy. These remedies can be used only after
child birth under expert supervision.
You can also do yoga under the guidance of your doctor and a yoga
expert as yoga has been found to eliminate back pain very
effectively. However if you have chronic back pain immediately
call upon your doctor and take necessary medications. Doctors may
prescribe some physiotherapy for back pain relief along with massages
and use of special mattresses to reduce back pain from pregnancy.
